Shark Attack – A Photoshop Manipulation

What You’ll Be Creating

Shark-attack

Tutorial Assets

This tutorial requires the following images:

  1. A background image of a boat with passengers sailing through the bay.
  2. A shark jumping out of the sea.
  3. A photo with large water ripples.
  4. A photo of a pointing hand.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I have chosen the following images..

Background

Shark-jumping

water-ripples

Hand

STEP 1

Open a new file with:

Color mode- RGB, 8 bit

Resolution – 300 pixels/inch

Width – 2200 pixels

Height – 1600 pixels

New-file

STEP 2

Now place the background image of the boat on the new canvas created and position and scale it suitably. Then make 3 adjustment layer of Level, Exposer and Hue & Saturation with clipping mask to enhance the image.

(background hue)

STEP 3

Now place the image of the jumping shark over everything and position, scale & rotate it suitably.

shark-placed

To remove the background of this image I used the layer mask tool and very carefully blended it with it’s surroundings with a soft brush having opacity of 28%,hardness 0%.

shark-placed-masked

And to match the lightness, hue and saturation of the jumping shark with it’s surroundings, I made one adjustment layer with clipping mask of hue & saturation and suitably adjusted those properties.

shark-placed-hue-saturation1

STEP 4

Now notice that even though the shark is jumping out of the sea but there are no water ripples around that area. So, to make water ripples I placed the photo of the shark with water ripples at the top of the layer stack and suitably scaled and rotated it.

Water-splash-placed

Then again I used the layer mask tool with soft brush to separate out only the water ripple portion and perfectly blend it with the surrounding water.

And to match the lightness, hue and saturation of the water ripples with it’s surroundings, I made one adjustment layer with clipping mask of hue & saturation and suitably adjusted those properties.

And to make another water ripple I duplicated the previous layer of water ripple, then scaled, rotated and masked it suitably.

water-splash-copy

And as usual to match the lightness, hue and saturation of the water ripples with it’s surroundings, I made one adjustment layer with clipping mask of hue & saturation and suitably adjusted those properties.

STEP 5

In order to make the characters on the boat look more responsive with the evolving situation, I placed a pointing hand on the first character (who is no one but my elder daughter).

hand-placed

Then again I used the layer mask tool to keep the required length of the hand and blend it with the surroundings.

hand-masked

Then I made a adjustment layer of Level with clipping mask to enhance and adjust the image of the hand with the surrounding.

Done!

And now I am finished! Take these techniques and go apply them to photos of your friends and family members to create some fun, unique and stunning images!

The final outcome..

Jungle Book – A Photoshop Manipulation

Easy photo manipulation with stunning effects

JUNGLE BOOK – A Photoshop Manipulation

There are times when you will wish to create a composition where you would like to see your dear ones comfortably sitting with some ferocious animal as if there exists some sort of friendship between them which is, in normal circumstances unimaginable.

In this tutorial I’ll show you how easy it is to create such a composition.

What you will be creating:

Jungle Book

 Tutorial Assets

1. This tutorial requires a photo of a child sitting and extending his/her right hand.
2. A photo of a ferocious animal sitting calmly amidst a jungle.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I have chosen the following images..

Mom1

Leopard1

STEP 1

Open a new file with

Color mode- RGB, 8 bit

Resolution – 300 pixels/inch

Width – 2000 pixels

Height – 1400 pixels

New file

STEP 2

Now place the image no.2 i.e. the leopard sitting calmly in a jungle on the new canvas created and position and scale it suitably.

Leapard placed

STEP 3

Now the turn for the child to be placed over the leopard. In this case the child is the daughter of my sister-in-law.

Mom1

I directly placed the image of the child over the layer of the leopard and positioned, scaled & rotated suitably.

Mom-placed1

STEP 4

To remove the background of this image I used the layer mask tool with a hard brush having opacity of 100%, then soften the edges to some extent with Blur Tool having suitable hardness and strength. If the right hand of the child is not properly positioned over the nose of the leopard it can be corrected with the help of the warp tool.

Mom-masked1

Mom-warped1

STEP 5

The image of the child sitting over the leopard is not looking realistic as if she is floating over the leopard. In order to make the child’s figure over the leopard more realistic I created two new blank layers in between the layer of the child and the leopard to create shadows. On the first blank layer, I made some shadows of the child’s leg on the leopard with a soft brush of hardness 6%, opacity 8% and mode: Overlay and darkened some portion of the leopard’s figure.

Leg-shadow1

On the 2nd blank layer, I repeated the above procedure to create shadows for the hand over the nose of the leopard. (Soft brush of hardness 8%, opacity 18% and mode: Overlay).

Hand-shadow1

STEP 6

In order to make the child’s figure even more realistic I performed another shadow making, this time on the hands and legs of the child so that the direction of the light coming on the whole composition looks symmetric. To do so, I made a new layer with clipping mask above the child’s layer with the following specification:

Mode – Soft light

And “Fill with soft light neutral color ( 50% gray)” Box checked.

layer_Skin darkening and shadow

Now with the burn tool with Hardness 2%, Exposer 45% and Range:Midtones I darkened some portion of the hands and legs to create  shadows on those parts of the child so that it seems light is coming symmetrically.

Body-shadow1

STEP 7

And finally I made 3 adjustment layers of Level, Curves & Exposer with clipping mask to enhance and adjust  the image of the child with the surrounding.

Level1

Curves1

Exposer1

Done!

And now I am finished! With these techniques, you can create some stunning and unique personal photographs and share with your friends and family members!

The final outcome..

Jungle Book

Child’s Dream – A Photoshop Manipulation

An image manipulation tutorial using photoshop.

Child’s Dream – A Photoshop Manipulation

What You’ll Be Creating

The world of Pom-Pihu

Tutorial Assets

1.     This tutorial requires photos of two children reading books, one lying on his/her back and the other lying on lap.

2.     A background image of a lot of white cloud high above the sky.

3.     Another image of white cloud.

4.     Brush of a half moon.

5.     Brush of Bubbles.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I have chosen the following images..

Pihu

Pom

Cloud

Cloud2

moon brush5. (moon brush)

bubble brushes6. (bubble brushes)

STEP 1

Open a new file with

Color mode- RGB, 8 bit

Resolution – 300 pixels/inch

Width – 2500 pixels

Height – 3000 pixels

New file

STEP 2

Now place the background image of cloud on the new canvas created and position and scale it suitably.

Cloud

STEP 3

Now create a blank layer above the cloud background. Then select a brush of bubble of your choice and click once on the blank layer and position and/or scale it suitably.

bubble brushes

Also lower the opacity and fill of that layer accordingly so that the bubble blends perfectly with the cloud background.

Bubble place

STEP 4

Now open the first image of the child who is incidentally no one but my younger daughter, in a separate tab in Photoshop.

Pihu

Then isolate the child from her background. There are various methods by which you can do so. I normally mask out the background with a hard brush having opacity of 100% then soften the edges to some extent with Blur Tool having suitable hardness and strength and then saving the image in PNG format.

Pihu Isolated

In order to match the contour of the child’s figure with that of the bubble I used the warp tool after placing the isolated figure over the Bubble.

Pihu warp

Pihu_placed

Now notice that the edge of the child’s figure is not matching with the background! So, again I masked it so that it’s edges perfectly match with the background.

Pihu mask

In order to make the child’s figure over the the bubble more realistic I performed some skin toning and shadow making. To do so, I made a new layer above the child’s layer with the following specification:

Mode – Soft light

And “Fill with soft light neutral color ( 50% gray)” Box checked.

layer_Skin darkening and shadow

Now with a soft brush of hardness 6% and opacity 8% I darkened some portion of the figure and made some shadows of the child on the bubble so that it looks more realistic.

Skin darkening and shadow

STEP 5

Now the turn for the 2nd child, in this case who is my eldest daughter.

Pom

I directly placed the image of the 2nd child over everything and positioned, scaled & rotated suitably.

Pom placed

To remove the background of this image I again used the layer mask tool with a hard brush having opacity of 100%, then soften the edges to some extent with Blur Tool having suitable hardness and strength.

Pom Isolated

Then I made 3 adjustment layer of Level, Curves & Exposer with clipping mask to enhance and adjust  the image of the 2nd child with the surrounding.

Pom levels

Pom curves

Pom exposer

STEP 6

In order to lay the 2nd child over a cloud I placed another image of cloud just beneath her and positioned, scaled & rotated accordingly as usual.

Cloud placed

Then I used a layer mask as usual to remove the background of this cloud also.

cloud masked

To look more realistic I inserted one blank layer in between the layer of this cloud and the 2nd child and made some shadows.

Pom shadow

STEP 7

Then created two new blank layers one above the other. Then I selected one of the Moon Brushes (Moon_brushes_5) and clicked once on the first newly created blank layer and positioned, scaled & rotated suitably. I left the layer’s opacity and fill at 100% each.

moon brush

Similarly I created the small cloud above the first child and blended it properly.

Done!

And now I am finished! Take these techniques and go apply them to photos of your friends and family members to create some fun, unique and personal images!

The final outcome..
